long-awaited release of the Juan L. Sánchez ensemble’s
second CD: Hijos de la Tierra (Children
of the Earth) is finally here! Click on the album cover to listen to

The album features, in addition to Juan’s
poetic songwriting and passionate voice, the delicious jazz improvisations
of Paul Contos on flute, soprano, alto and tenor sax, the crisp riffs
of Dayan Kai on 12-string guitar, charango, mandolin, piano and even
accordeon, Steve Uccello’s stylings on electric fretless and stand-up
bass, the exquisite pandero, ganzá and djembe performance of
David McCormick, and the unique harmonies of Noe Hinojosa (whose painting
graces the cover of the CD).
Hijos de la Tierra also features the stellar guest performances of Middle-Eastern
percussion master Armando Mafufo., jazz piano virtuoso Murray Low, Mike
Shannon on drum kit and finally, a trio of outstanding musicians from
Mali: singer Tapa Demba, ballaphon master Balla Kouyate and last, but
not least, the incomparable Mamadou
Diabate, whose dazzling kora (21-string harp) solos both open and
close the album.

Cosmopolita
(Cosmopolitan)
Released in 1997, this album marks the birth of the new sound of The Juan
L. Sánchez Ensemble, and it features Juan as a songwriter and producer.
Thus, it includes 9 riginal tunes (Cosmopolita, Amor y Desamor, Mitakuye
Oyasim, Gary, Libertad, A Medias, Déjate Llevar, Mímame
and The Crib), a Latin American music classic (La Muralla), and a poem
by Lorca put to music by Juan. |

Ya (Wake up already) -Released in 1994, this album was done
with Juan's original group, Trova Latina
(José Hernández, guitar and vocals, Noe Hinojosa,
percussion and vocals, Mayola Rodríguez, flute and vocals). It
included 4 original compositions by Juan: Mayola, Camino con la Trova,
Welcome to Your Promised Land and Si Tú Me Olvidas (words by Pablo
Neruda, music by Juan L. Sánchez.
